Educational, not financial advice. Leveraged trading is high-risk and can lose your entire margin quickly. Estimates only; your exchange's liquidation price will differ.

How it works

Leverage lets you control a bigger position with less money, but if price moves against you far enough the exchange closes it: that's liquidation. This answers: "How big should my position be so a stop-out only costs X% of my account, and where would I get liquidated?"

Questions, answered

What is a liquidation price?

The price at which the exchange force-closes a leveraged position because your margin can no longer cover losses. With isolated margin you lose the margin assigned to that position.

What is the maintenance margin rate?

The minimum margin, as a percent of position value, the exchange requires to keep a position open. It differs by exchange, coin and position size, so enter the figure your exchange shows. We do not assume any exchange's value.

How is position size calculated?

Position size = (account size × risk %) ÷ (distance from entry to stop, in %). That way, if your stop is hit you lose roughly your chosen risk amount, before fees and slippage.

Why can't I trust this number exactly?

Exchanges use mark price, tiered margin, fees and funding, which change the real liquidation price. Use this as an estimate and always check the liquidation price your exchange shows before placing a trade.

Is leverage trading risky?

Yes, very. Most beginners lose money with leverage. This calculator is educational, not financial advice.
